Anderida WI: meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month, 2.30pm at St Wilfrid’s Church Hall, Pevensey Bay. They also have a craft group on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, games afternoons, coffee mornings, trips and lunches out! Groups for the Elderly
RVS Monday Lunch Club: meets at Ethel Wood Hall every Monday from 10 until 2pm, and offers the seniors of the parish a chance to socialise, eat a hot meal and play bingo. Service users pay £4 for their hot meal, bingo and transport to and from the community centre in the Pevensey Community Support bus. Pevensey Senior Support Group: offers a lunch and bingo on Tuesdays at Ethel Wood Hall, bi-monthly shopping trips, a home visiting service, regular outings and trips, Christmas Bazaar and other get-togethers, general help and support. Contact Daniel Brookbank 01323 765915
Pevensey Dreamers Social Club: meet every Thursday and the group is available to everyone. There is a monthly newsletter which details the upcoming events and outings for the coming two months. They also have their own lottery syndicate! On the first and second Thursdays of the month meetings are held at 2pm at Ethel Wood Hall. Entry is £1. The first Thursday of the month is a social gathering in which sometimes there are speakers, quizzes and always a fun welcoming atmosphere. The second Thursday of the month is a games afternoon where you can take part in card games, scrabble, bingo etc or maybe even a beetle drive! The remaining Thursdays each month are outings to various local venues, times and venues vary and transport is either via car sharing or minibus. Contact Shelia Clarke 01323 763750
Lunch by the Lake: The Pevensey Senior Support Bus collects seniors from Pevensey and Westham every Wednesday around midday to have lunch at a cost of £6 per person. This lunch club has stopped for the moment but Ron is hoping to revive it from March at a new venue of the Bay Hotel. The name of the club will have to change too! Age Concern: offer a befriending service visiting older people in their own homes on a weekly basis, helping them to pursue social activities, access services and identify other support they may be entitled to. They also run a ‘forget-me not’ scheme which provides a weekly telephone call to brighten the day of an isolated older person. British Red Cross: The Carers Support Service supports carers and the person they care for by offering a short term companionship and sitting service and other help such as light housework, meal preparation and shopping, dog-walking, assisting with form completion or paperwork, walking with or offering encouragement and motivation to someone exercising on return from hospital, accessing the community and signposting to other organisations. No personal care is given. Health Walks: A short easy stroll takes place around Pevensey Bay every Monday from 9.45 meeting outside the library. Finishing around 10.30 refreshments and a chat are then enjoyed over refreshments at a local café. Walkers often call into Coast Rd recreation ground to use the adult exercise equipment. Pevensey Bay and District Stroke Club: Support for local people who have suffered a stroke and their relatives. Phone support and chats over a cup of tea are on offer as well as occasional get-togethers with others. Cuckmere Valley Pentanque Club: Otherwise known as French Boules the object of the game is to throw a small steel ball into the air or roll it along the ground so that it stops as close as possible to a target ball. The club currently meets on Sunday 11am – 1pm, Tuesday 11am – 1pm, Wednesday 2-4pm and Fridays 1.30-3.30 although times may vary in the summer. The games are open to everyone and there is a strong social element to the meetings too. Competitions and a Christmas party are also held! Inkspot: meets on the first Friday of every month at Pevensey Bay Baptist Church at 6.30. Go along to one of the meetings and meet other people who enjoy writing, you don’t have to write a word to take part, you can simply enjoy listening to the creativity of fellow villagers and make new friends at the same time. You can submit poems, short stories (under 1500 words) a song or even a piece of life writing. It is free to submit work and you can then attend the monthly meeting where you can read your work aloud to others if you want to. Meetings are £2 and include refreshments. Village Social Evening: Pevensey Volunteers will be arranging a monthly get-together for all villagers actively involved in organising or volunteering for the groups, clubs and regular events in the village. Hopefully by meeting regularly and chatting we can work better together and support each other’s work. The get-togethers will be held in the Bayside Diner at 7pm on the first Monday of every month starting on March the 7th 2016.
