Autumn Fruits Oaty Crumble

A simple warming old fashioned wartime dish just as delicious today

Serves 4

140g plain flour
100g margarine
3 scant tbs oats
2 tbs brown demarara sugar
pinch of cinnamon
8 plums, 3 apples, 1 handful of blackberries
1 tsp cornflour

Heat oven to 200.180 Gas mark 6.
Rub fat into flour so it resembles coarse breadcrumbs
Stir in oats and sugar and cinnamon
Core,peel,stone and chop the fruit and pile into an oven proof dish
Slake cornflour  with water and stir into the fruit so make a sauce with the juices
If fruit is very tart add a little sugar to the fruit
Cover with the crumble mixture and bake 20 – 30 minutes until top is golden and fruit is bubbling at the edges
Serve with a sprinkle of demarara  and custard or thick cream
